How do I use devfs based disk handling with my ccd?

if I compile a kernel with options DEVFS and options SLICE
no /dev entries show up for the ccd and I get thrown into
single user mode  :(

[19:13:18]105<0> mount
...
devfs on /devs (local)
...

[19:12:52]101<0> ls /devs/c*
/devs/console           /devs/cuaa0             /devs/cuala0
/devs/consolectl        /devs/cuaia0

it works great with normal /dev
