Mail-Followup-To: freebsd-questions@freebsd.org, freebsd-scsi@freebsd.org Mime-Version: 1.0 Content-Type: text/plain; charset=us-ascii X-Mailer: Mutt 0.89i x-no-archive: yes Sender: owner-freebsd-scsi@FreeBSD.ORG Precedence: bulk X-Loop: FreeBSD.org I am wondering whether *anyone* has a scanner working in the FreeBSD environment, or if it's only a fool's (or a superlative hacker's) quest at the moment. I'm struggling with a brand-spanking new HP6100cse. My system utterly locks up whenever I access the scanner. Anytime I access /dev/pt0, using any of the software that supposedly supports hp scanners (commercial xvscan -- FreeBSD binaries or freshly compiled -- hpscan or sane 0.71), the *entire* system locks up. I'll give a little more info below ... but I'm mainly interested in learning whether this is a solvable problem in a reasonable time frame, or that I should return some of my recent equipment purchases while I still can. So, I ask again: is *anyone* using a scanner with 3.0-current? How about 2.2-? HP or other? /dev/pt0 or other? Best regards -- Larry S.
