Gary and Jordan have also reported some strange problems that I hope these changes fix too. I've decided to hold off on pulling the SCSI branch into -current until I get confirmation that the aic7xxx driver is again stable enough for 2.2 so that pulling bug fixes into the 2.2 branch is easy to do.
