It was fine. After upgraded the machine today, I could no long boot the machine. It constantly asked me to manually input the device of root file system, which it has detected correctly (i.e. ufs:/dev/ad0s1a). The problem magically disappeared when I "boot -v" in boot prompt. Could it be a timer issue? I attached the dmesg of normal boot, and dmesg of "boot -v". --------------------------------------------------- sc0: <System console> at flags 0x100 on isa0 sc0: VGA <16 virtual consoles, flags=0x300> vga0: <Generic ISA VGA> at port 0x3c0-0x3df iomem 0xa0000-0xbffff on isa0 Timecounter "TSC" frequency 2800112024 Hz quality 800 Timecounters tick every 1.000 msec unknown: timeout waiting to issue command unknown: error issuing ATA_IDENTIFY command unknown: timeout waiting to issue command unknown: error issuing ATA_IDENTIFY command Trying to mount root from ufs:/dev/ad0s1a Manual root filesystem specification: <fstype>:<device> Mount <device> using filesystem <fstype> eg. ufs:da0s1a ?
