It is still a very cool thing for them to do, since they _don't_ sell it on their systems. This was posted on -advocacy yesterday, FWIW. According to one of the compaq guys responsible for this project (Michael Waite), who posted on DDN, they're working on Alpha SMP support - so it looks like there is at least some internal compaq support for FreeBSD.
