This extension should be backed out not because it * is a feature but because of bad implementation of this feature. I'm not sure how we can use termcap or curses without mounting /usr. Look, it does the job adequately on most terminals out there. It doesn't work on some, but then it doesn't hurt either since you need an extra flag to invoke it anyway. I'd like to talk with people who don't own an ANSI terminal *and* who want to have this functionality.
