I've built it from the ports and from src. You can use the flags in rc.conf just fine either way. The only "problem" that I can say I've run into is other people who have broken DNS. Bind 9 is more of a stickler for the standards than 8 was, so there's a lot of DNS servers out there that were set up until they worked, not until they were right.
