The new version of Mutt (1.2) seems to handle imap about as well as pine does, and isn't much larger than earlier (388744 bytes on my FreeBSD machine). It doesn't include an editor, but you can use pico or vi or whatever you like and you can even edit the headers of your mail inside the editor (which of course means you can shoot yourself in the foot). > (Although even pico+mutt+slrn < pine).
