AFAIK, there's *no* common code between sxpc and dxpc. dxpc has three approaches to compression: 1) Send differences for protocol fields with small expected deltas (hence the "d"). 2) LRU cache of recently sent values, to reduce the number of bits needed to send them. 3) Caching on each side of the link to eliminate transmission of oft-requested quantities. It's been awhile since I've used sxpc, but I think that sxpc implements only a simple lossess compression on the bytestream, without being aware of the syntax of the X protocol messages. Bruce.
