i'm having two problems with the root account:

1) i can't start kde. after the login screen, the goes screen black,
then goes back to the login screen. i've been using fvwm2, and it
worked fine.

2) this may be the cause of the first problem. i can't seem to change
the root's shell, or any other settings. i've written a .profile but it
doesn't seem to get executed. no matter what i try, root starts with
csh. since root is starting in csh, i looked at the .login file, and
that doesn't seems to be executed either. what's even more confusing is
that the .cshrc does seem to get executed. i also checked the
/etc/csh.cshrc and /etc/csh.login files. every line is commented out,
so they don't have any executable lines.

some please help!

thanks,
bc
