Andrei, I think it's fairly safe to say that binutils 2.17 will probably
not be MFC'd to -STABLE (never say never :), but it is now committed to
HEAD, and it supports quite a lot of newer CPU features, up to SSE 4.2.

So shall we close this PR now?
