I've done that... The cards then would come back to life, but insist on making the AUI port live (which is odd because they have only a UTP port) :/ However, a little more research indicates that you can force UTP by doing "ifconfig de0 link1". Setting them this way in rc.conf means that the cards now come back online ok.
