Thanks. Got me thinking though, and I found an intriguing file called /var/log/messages. Last time I tried and failed loading dri (forcing PCI mode, which is how it worked last year), this message log settled into the following pattern (repeating ~17.5 times/second): Jan 24 19:43:01 discovery kernel: [drm:pid637:radeon_cp_idle] Jan 24 19:43:01 discovery kernel: [drm:pid637:radeon_do_cp_idle] Jan 24 19:43:01 discovery kernel: [drm:pid637:drm_ioctl] returning 16 Jan 24 19:43:01 discovery kernel: [drm:pid637:drm_ioctl] pid=637, cmd=0x20006444, nr=0x44, dev 0xc2f3fd00, auth=1 I hope someone here finds a clue.
