Hi! Please note: these are no vital problems, I am just trying things on my private (4.8-PRERELEASE) machine. 1) To freshly install XFree86-4 and gnome2 I completely deinstalled all gnome2 and XFree86 packages and removed all kinds of X11/ or X11R6/ directories. 2) # pkgdb -F ran cleanly without any complaints Then one should be able to run 3) # portinstall -R XFree86 (and configure XF86Config) and 4) # portinstall -R gnome2 (and put gnome-session in one's xinitrc) All this does not work for me, neither XFree86-4 nor gnome2 will install cleanly this way. The problems seem to originate from these packages - imake - freetype - gstreamer (and plugins?) - fontconfig I also tried to use some binaries from my 4.7-RELEASE, but the best I can get is the startup gnome splash screen - then X crashes. In case someone is interested I can reproduce this (or I will wait for binaries).
