Hello,

When I tried to build my kernel from 4.4-release to
4.5-stable I go this error:

mtree -deU -f /usr/src/etc/mtree/BSD.var.dist -p /var
mtree: line 63: unknown user smmsp
*** Error code 1

Hmmm... So I go out and create this user based on the
above file and presto!! It works.  

My question is can anyone tell me what the smmsp user
is for and why you have to have this user to build the
kernel?
