Please CC all message to freebsd-questions.  If you don't, I will stop 
answering.

Don't use root.flp [it's for floppies > 1.44MB].  Use kern.flp and 
mfsroot.flp.  I think you should read the instructions contained in 
README.TXT in the floppies directory.
