More specifically. The submitted version of the port behaved as follows:

   heinz# make fetch
   ===>  jdk-doc-1.1.8 You must manually fetch jdk-1_1_8_003-doc.tar.gz
   from http://java.sun.com/jdk/1.1/docs.html, place it in
   /usr/ports/distfiles and then run make again..

while the committed version of the port behaves as follows:

   heinz# make fetch
   >> jdk-1_1_8_003-doc.tar.gz doesn't seem to exist in /usr/ports/distfiles/.
   >> Attempting to fetch from
   >> ftp://ftp.FreeBSD.org/pub/FreeBSD/ports/distfiles/.
   fetch: jdk-1_1_8_003-doc.tar.gz: File unavailable (e.g., file not found,
   no access)
   >> Couldn't fetch it - please try to retrieve this
   >> port manually into /usr/ports/distfiles/ and try again.
   *** Error code 1
