I tried this to support my ATAPI CD-ROM. It was a mistake. Although I did learn much while patching up the errors and omissions that resulted, It was counterproductive. I ftp'd the 2.1.5 minimal installation, plus man pages and source for the kernel, and installed that without a hitch. That 2.1.5 boot floppy found all of my devices without problems. I am impressed.
