IIRC, you enable real ad-hoc mode with wicontrol using the "-c 1" and just leave the port type is BSS mode. (Well, you also have to specify the IBSS SSID via -q, but I set both of them via "ifconfig ssid" so that's already correct.) Fixing the ifconfig code would require changing the result of setting the adhoc mediaopt to take the actions wicontrol would take with the above options. It would probably be best to make FLAG0 do what the adhoc flag does now so the old bogus adhoc mode is still available.
