U-boot? Yep, using U-Boot and ubldr. I'm actually using crochet to build images for the SD card, which needed a couple of extra steps to create a "bootstream" image to go into the first partition. The tool you need for that is called elftosb, mentioned here: http://www.jann.cc/2013/02/07/u_boot_for_the_imx233_olinuxino.html It compiles fine on FreeBSD with a couple of trivial modifications.
