Are you sure you are feedin it the correct information? Try this:
pkg_info -Ix PROGRAM_NAME (-> gives you the exact installed
version of PROGRAM_NAME installed.)
Now feed that to:
pkg_delete -vdfr PROGRAM_NAME
That should do it.
