What dmesg file? The dmesg command prints the contents of a kernel
buffer that contains messages generated by the kernel. The syslog
daemon logs these and other messages, with timestamps, to various log
files located in /var/log (most prominently /var/log/messages) as
specified in /etc/syslogd.conf.
