Try to engage your brain before opening your mouth next time. There are over 3,000 ports in the ports tree, do you really think a volunteer project has enough time to check *all* of those ports, and check again whenever a new version is released? If a port doesn't build, try to fix it yourself and send a patch to the maintainer, or just ask the maintainer yourself if you can't fix it. It's no good telling -ports that there's a dozen that don't build, what do you expect us to do? Take a wild guess as to which dozen you're referring to, what errors you're getting, and magically come up with a fix? It's obvious from your first sentence that you don't know much about the ports tree anyway. With regard to ports, there's no such thing as the "4.0 tree", as the port tree is not branched. If you think the ports are shit, don't use them, you're not forced to. Look for the software yourself, find any required patches yourself, make all modifications to make it compile on FreeBSD yourself, find all the other programs it depends on to run or build, keep track of which files are installed so you can easily uninstall it yourself... -- Ben Smithurst / ben@scientia.demon.co.uk / PGP: 0x99392F7D To Unsubscribe: send mail to majordomo@FreeBSD.org with "unsubscribe freebsd-ports" in the body of the message
