Onboard SCSI controller (sym0) with two external drives. SMART-2LS RAID controller running two internal drives as RAID0 for booting off. Latest BIOS updates on both the motherboard and the RAID controllers. Single processor, 128meg of RAM. >Description: After running FreeBSD on the machine you must power off the machine before attempting to reboot. trying to warm reboot the machine causes it to hang at the point in the BIOS where it would normally scan the onboard SCSI controller for external discs. It appears something about FreeBSD puts this controller into a state where it will not restart properly. Note that this also happens if you compile a FreeBSD kernel without the sym or ncr drivers in it, so the problem does not appear to be related to these drivers per-se. >How-To-Repeat: Boot FreeBSD 4.2 or greater onto a Compaq AP400 workstation. Type 'reboot' and the system will attempt to reboot, hanging at the point where the onboard SCSI bios scans for external drives. >Fix: Always power off the machine before rebooting. The downside of this is that the machine cannot be rebooted remotely. >Release-Note: >Audit-Trail: >Unformatted: To Unsubscribe: send mail to majordomo@FreeBSD.org with "unsubscribe freebsd-bugs" in the body of the message
