Bizarre...

If software can really break hardware then virus writers & e-warfare types
can really wreak havoc... back to the abacus.

I had a similar problem a while back, when installing 2.2.8. The
installaation kernel panic'ed and the system locked up. A reboot was
sufficent to clear it though. The fault was completely replicatable (real
word ?).
It turned out to be the motherboard had decided my RAM was 100Mhz, when it
was not. I set the ram bus speed to 83 Mhz in the BIOS and the systems
been running non-stop for 3 months.
