Hmm, I don't wish to criticise the maintainer (I have no idea about his other commitments), but this port along with other kde 4.1-beta ports has been broken for some time. I sent a complete set of patches to bring the whole lot up to 4.1 at one point and got absolutely no reply. While I have no doubt that the stuff Stefan is doing is far more thorough than what I did, I have to agree with ``scrappy'' - it's broken, so fix it.
