Argh, more work, this is currently a production system, so upgrades are a pain, and I am waiting until 2.1R comes out, or maybe 2.0.5R at the earliest. i didn't experience this problem until 2.0.5a. my fix was to add arp -s spider.csrv.uidaho.edu 0:40:5:17:8c:27 pub to the end of my /etc/netstart. that was the way i fixed it... like you, i wasn't mixing anything...stock 2.0.5a, and i hadn't deleted the route to localhost. faried.
