Dear Readers,

System Details : FreeBSD 4.3-Release

I would like to replace `MakeIndex' with `xindy -- A Flexible
Indexing System'. It seems that together with TeX and LaTeX,
`xindy' generates splendid multi-lingual indices.

I have info on the software from :=20

 http://www.iti.informatik.tu-darmstadt.de/xindy/

I have downloaded the source code and binaries from :

 ftp://ftp.dante.de/tex-archive/indexing/xindy/

The trouble is that the binaries are only available for Linux and
SunOS, AIX etc. I can't get the Linux version to `make' let alone
`make install'.

The errors are of the following variety:

=3D=3D=3D[rbm49] ~/distdir/xindy/xindy/binaries/i386-linux-elf $ make
all
Creating file defaults.xdy...
Finished defaults.xdy.
=2E/xindy.run -q -M ./base.mem -c ../../current/src/base.lsp -o
base.fas

handle_fault error1 !
*** - SIGSEGV cannot be cured. Fault address =3D 0xC675D200.
*** Signal 11

Stop in
/usr/home/rbm49/distdir/xindy/xindy/binaries/i386-linux-elf.
=3D=3D=3D[rbm49] ~/distdir/xindy/xindy/binaries/i386-linux-elf $=20

Has any one had any luck getting `xindy' to work under FreeBSD? I
would very much like to hear from you if you have.

Many regards,

 Richard Mahoney
