For detecting virus, you should only trust an antivirus added to sendmail. Address is not enought. I am not sure the sendmail version packaged with FreeBSD is uptodate either. You may need to reinstall it. Installing and configuring a mail gateway is one of the dirtiest thing on Internet. You have o spend some time understanding the whole thing, you cannot efficiently patch a bit here and a bit there.
