OK thanks. I'll try this then restarting the machine. It's baffling because I have another machine with sharenfs in 15-stable with no issues[0]. maybe there's something amiss with this particular box. Next steps will be to try removing zfs from the equation and if that works, I'll reformat the external disk as ufs2 and nfs that way. If nfs still doesn't work for some reason then there's an nfsd on an OpenBSD that's working. [0] has no usb3 ports though --
