This is a physically large 2 Xeon desktop, so it would really nifty if I could rewire it as a laptop! I just tried the headphone socket: same behaviour. "mixer vol" has no effect. I'll just ignore it; it seems that applications know to adjust "pcm". The real issue is knowing to increase "ogain" to get a reasonable base. Thanks, Jan.
