Here is what I now have in /etc/sysctl.con

# do not sleep when te lid is closed
hw.acpi.lid_switch_state=S0

# do not power up again when turned off
hw.acpi.disable_on_poweroff=0

hw.syscons.sc_no_suspend_vtswitch=1
