I needed help from the forum to get swat going for remote administration of Samba. I had made all the configuration changes I could find in the manual. It was eventually pointed out to me that inetd must be started!

Given that all the rest of the configuration was laid out on a plate, I didn't read the entire Handbook and was stuck for days.
