I have upgraded Gnome to 2.12.3 (on 6.0-RELEASE-p4) and everything else, including cups, to make sure every library was consistent and recent. I redid the two edits that Joe suggested, and reinstalled cups-lpr with the cited flag. I don't think the flag was necessary, actually, since I had already tended to eliminating the conflict in lpd/cups print files. I still get the printer requesting that I put in a tray of A4 paper. I would really appreciate other advice on how to fix the problem. Otherwise, I'll file a bug report, which this is looking like it is. Frank
