Box A is the NIS master. Both box A and B are the NIS clients. In other words, box A ypbinds to itself to retrieve login information. I do not have /var/yp/securenets setup. This setup used to work for over a year, until I upgraded both boxes via source yesterday. The source was cvsup'ed on Dec 28, 2001. I can 'ypcat passwd' on box B without any problems. However, ypcat hangs on box A. I ran tcpdump on box A. I saw the boardcast packets from both boxes. Box A answered the boardcast packets from box B, but it does not answer the boardcast packets from itself. Question: Why is box A not answering boardcast from itself? Is this normal? Thanks in advance for any suggestions. --- Samuel Chow This message is displayed using recycled electrons. Hi there,

        I have two = FreeBSD boxes -- let's call them box A
        and box = B.  Box A is the NIS master.  Both box A
        and B are = the NIS clients.  In other words, box A
        ypbinds = to itself to retrieve login information.
        I do not = have /var/yp/securenets setup.

        This setup = used to work for over a year, until I
        upgraded = both boxes via source yesterday.  The source
        was = cvsup'ed on Dec 28, 2001.

        I can = 'ypcat passwd' on box B without any problems.
        However, = ypcat hangs on box A.

        I ran = tcpdump on box A.  I saw the boardcast packets
        from both = boxes.  Box A answered the boardcast packets
        from box = B,     but it does not answer the boardcast packets =
        from = itself.

        Question: = Why is box A not answering boardcast from itself?
        Is this = normal?

        Thanks in = advance for any suggestions.
