Update! Okay, I realized that I had another machine of the same model floating around in the building running Windows 98. So what I did was I checked out the properties for the sound device. Here is the information pertaining to the sound device in a Compaq Presario 5240 desktop computer: ES1869 Pnp Audiodrive DMA 1 DMA 3 IRQ 5 IO 220 IO 388 IO 330 It also had some control interface at io 268 listed, but I have no clue what the heck that is. Now what I don't know if it's a PCI or ISA device. Although, aren't PnP devices generally ISA? Hmmmm...I remember back when I had a PnP soundblaster I had to add device pnp and device pcm to get it to work. Do have to do the same? I'll be checking the mailing list archives to see if by chance someone came across this and found a fix. Thanks for the help!
