Recently installed FreeBSD 4.6 Stable from CD-ROM on dedicated machine, ie. no other OS. Using GENERIC kernel. Have attempted to install 3 different PCI NIC's (repeated installation routine each time) which all generate message "couldn't map ports/memory", a fatal initialization error. All are listed in the documentation as supported. The drivers and NIC's I've tried are reported in dmesg as (depending on which card is installed at the time, of course): dc0: <ADMtek AN985 10/100baseTX> at device 12.0 on pci0 xl0: <3Com 3C905B-TX Fast Etherlink XL> at device 12.0 on pci0 dc0: <Macronix 98714/98715A 10/100BaseTX> at device 12.0 on pci0 Have tried all other available PCI slots. All cards are functional in other machines running MS Windows variants. The 3Com card was functional in this machine under Windows 2000 prior to converting to FreeBSD. I can find no other indication of conflicts between this device and any other. What else might I try? Thanks, Worth Bishop PS - In searching FreeBSD site, combing through documentation, reviewing archives, etc. it appears quite a number of people have experienced similar problems with the ethernet interface installation in 4.6 Stable. Unfortunately, have not seen that any of them have been able to find solutions. Is this a systemic problem?
