Running smoothly here .. just make sure you have libtool installed and use
the following configure-line:

./configure --with-gfx-incs="-I/usr/local/include
-I/usr/local/include/giflib" --with-gfx-libs="-L/usr/local/lib"
--prefix=/usr/X11R6


--prefix can be ignored

and in case you still run the old -ltiff34 (instead of -ltiff) you should
add -I/usr/local/include/tiff34  to the incs-path as well
