It's the apps drive languages. Like Mosaic and HotJava and Tk and Hypercard and FreeBSD and Emacs. Emacs Lisp isn't popular because it's lisp, it's popular because it's embedded in Emacs. FreeBSD is our killer app. And its native languages are C and sh and awk.
