I'm a bit clueless what else to try to get vinum workin'. What i did: Installed FreeBSD 3.2RELEASE out of the (CD)box. Following the Handbook and the manpages i created the slices. i have 2 8GB disks da2 and da3 for a striped volume on both created a single slice of type freebsd(165) using the whole disk with a true partition entry. created the config file: drive a device /dev/da2s1 drive b device /dev/da3s1 volume userdisk plex org striped 512k sd length 8192M drive a sd length 8192M drive b when i do the vinum-create it reports all disks, volume, plex as up, = however on both disks avail: is 0/8192M 0% newfs -v /dev/vinum/userdisk works and transfer data to the disk. But if i stop vinum and then do vinum start, the whole volume is gone = and no configuration is found. I hope someone can help 'cause i need this really soon to get a = news-server up. Cheers, Roland =20 ------=_NextPart_000_017F_01BEFA0C.664063C0 Content-Type: text/html; charset="iso-8859-1" Content-Transfer-Encoding: quoted-printable <!DOCTYPE HTML PUBLIC "-//W3C//DTD W3 HTML//EN"> <HTML> <HEAD> <META content=3Dtext/html;charset=3Diso-8859-1 = http-equiv=3DContent-Type> <META content=3D'"MSHTML 4.72.3110.7"' name=3DGENERATOR> </HEAD> <BODY bgColor=3D#ffffff> <DIV><FONT color=3D#000000 size=3D2>Hi,</FONT></DIV> <DIV><FONT color=3D#000000 size=3D2>this is now my last try before = switching to=20 ccd.</FONT></DIV> <DIV><FONT color=3D#000000 size=3D2></FONT> </DIV> <DIV><FONT color=3D#000000 size=3D2>I'm a bit clueless what else to try = to get vinum=20 workin'.</FONT></DIV> <DIV><FONT color=3D#000000 size=3D2>What i did:</FONT></DIV> <DIV><FONT color=3D#000000 size=3D2></FONT> </DIV> <DIV><FONT color=3D#000000 size=3D2>Installed FreeBSD 3.2RELEASE out of = the=20 (CD)box.</FONT></DIV> <DIV><FONT color=3D#000000 size=3D2></FONT> </DIV> <DIV><FONT color=3D#000000 size=3D2>Following the Handbook and the = manpages i=20 created the slices.</FONT></DIV> <DIV><FONT color=3D#000000 size=3D2>i have 2 8GB disks da2 and da3 for a = striped=20 volume</FONT></DIV> <DIV><FONT color=3D#000000 size=3D2>on both created a single slice of = type=20 freebsd(165) using the whole</FONT></DIV> <DIV><FONT color=3D#000000 size=3D2>disk with a true partition = entry.</FONT></DIV> <DIV><FONT color=3D#000000 size=3D2></FONT> </DIV> <DIV><FONT color=3D#000000 size=3D2>created the config = file:</FONT></DIV> <DIV><FONT color=3D#000000 size=3D2></FONT> </DIV> <DIV><FONT size=3D2>drive a device /dev/da2s1</FONT></DIV> <DIV><FONT size=3D2>drive b device /dev/da3s1</FONT></DIV> <DIV><FONT size=3D2>volume userdisk</FONT></DIV> <DIV><FONT size=3D2> plex org striped 512k</FONT></DIV> <DIV><FONT size=3D2> sd length 8192M drive a</FONT></DIV> <DIV><FONT size=3D2> sd length 8192M drive b</FONT></DIV> <DIV><FONT size=3D2></FONT> </DIV> <DIV><FONT size=3D2>when i do the vinum-create it reports all disks, = volume, plex=20 as up, however</FONT></DIV> <DIV><FONT size=3D2>on both disks avail: is 0/8192M 0%</FONT></DIV> <DIV><FONT size=3D2></FONT> </DIV> <DIV><FONT size=3D2>newfs -v /dev/vinum/userdisk works and transfer data = to the=20 disk.</FONT></DIV> <DIV><FONT size=3D2></FONT> </DIV> <DIV><FONT size=3D2>But if i stop vinum and then do vinum start, the = whole volume=20 is gone and</FONT></DIV> <DIV><FONT size=3D2>no configuration is found.</FONT></DIV> <DIV><FONT size=3D2></FONT> </DIV> <DIV><FONT size=3D2>I hope someone can help 'cause i need this really = soon to get=20 a news-server up.</FONT></DIV> <DIV><FONT size=3D2></FONT> </DIV> <DIV><FONT size=3D2>Cheers, Roland = </FONT></DIV></BODY></HTML> ------=_NextPart_000_017F_01BEFA0C.664063C0-- To Unsubscribe: send mail to majordomo@FreeBSD.org with "unsubscribe freebsd-questions" in the body of the message
