Hey. Right after I figure out that in order for my Soundblaster AWE64 to work with sbc and pcm under 4.0-STABLE by enabling 'PNP OS' in my BIOS, it turns out that this setting in my BIOS causes my Netgear NIC to stop working. The system, freshly cvsup'd: FreeBSD spike.brainlink.com 4.0-STABLE FreeBSD 4.0-STABLE #0: Wed May 17 17:04:39 EDT 2000 spork@spike.brainlink.com:/usr/obj/usr/src/sys/ZALEM4 i386 The symptoms: With PNP enabled: dc0: <82c169 PNIC 10/100BaseTX> irq 9 at device 14.0 on pci0 dc0: couldn't map ports/memory [..snip..] sbc0: <Creative SB AWE64> at port 0x220-0x22f,0x330-0x331,0x388-0x38b irq 5 drq 1,5 on isa0 sbc0: setting card to irq 5, drq 1, 5 pcm0: <SB DSP 4.16> on sbc0 pcm: setmap c000, 2000; 0xcd1e0000 -> c000 pcm: setmap e000, 2000; 0xcd1e2000 -> e000 unknown0: <Game> at port 0x200-0x207 on isa0 unknown1: <WaveTable> at port 0x620-0x623 on isa0 Without PNP: dc0: <82c169 PNIC 10/100BaseTX> port 0xf400-0xf4ff mem 0xfedfec00-0xfedfecff irq 9 at device 14.0 on pci0 dc0: Ethernet address: 00:a0:cc:65:55:7b miibus0: <MII bus> on dc0 ukphy0: <Generic IEEE 802.3u media interface> on miibus0 ukphy0: 10baseT, 10baseT-FDX, 100baseTX, 100baseTX-FDX, auto The sound card makes no appearance in dmesg if 'PNP OS' is not enabled. I've tried every free PCI slot in my system (2), and also tried moving my AHA-2940 around and using it's PCI slot for the NIC. The AHA works wherever I put it, the NIC works wherever I put if 'PNP OS' is not enabled. If I remove the AWE64 and my modem (the only two ISA PNP devices in the system not attached to my motherboard) the NIC still refuses to function with 'PNP OS' turned on. I've attached full dmesgs with and without PNP and my kernel config file. I'm stuck as to why this doesn't work; does anybody know? Thank you, and please cc: directly to me as I am not subscribed to the list. -- --Spike Gronim gronimw@stuy.edu "Oh yes? An obscene triangle which, has more courage than the word."
