Mine's the NEC DVD which reports on the 5.2.1 generic kernel as: acd0: DVDR <_NEC DVD_RW ND-1300A> at ata1-slave PIO4 But I just tried the -current as of 2004/08/04 13:30 GMT and it still doesn't boot beyond the probe of the ata devices. Boot with the DVD unplugged and I get: ad0: 38166MB [77545/16/63] at ata0-master UDMA100 ad1: 238475MB [484521/16/63] at ata0-slave UDMA100 ata1-master: DMA limited to UDMA33, non-ATA66 cable or device ad2: 32253MB [65531/16/63] at ata1-master UDMA33 SMP: AP CPU #1 Launched! Mounting root from ufs:/dev/ad0s1a Boot it with the DVD powered, and I get: ad0: 38166MB [77545/16/63] at ata0-master UDMA100 ad1: 238475MB [484521/16/63] at ata0-slave UDMA100 ATAPI_RESET time = 30us ata1-master: DMA limited to UDMA33, non-ATA66 cable or device ad2: 32253MB [65531/16/63] at ata1-master UDMA33 ... and it hangs... Note that I do NOT get the ATAPI_RESET message when the DVD isn't present. -jr On Aug 27, 19:42, Søren Schmidt wrote: > Justin Smith wrote: > >FreeBSD jsmith.org 6.0-CURRENT FreeBSD 6.0-CURRENT #0: Fri Aug 27 > >10:56:28 EDT 2004 jsmith@jsmith.org:/usr/obj/usr/src/sys/MYKERNEL i386 > > > > > >My machine hangs on boot, with > > > >ACD1 DVDROM AT ATA1-SLAVE UDMA40 > > > >then I get a lot of messages > > > >ATAPI_RESET time=50us > >ATAPI_RESET time=180us > > > >and eventually > > > >SETFEATURES SET TRANSFER MODE INTERRUPT WAS SEEN BUT taskqueue > >(something, I'm not sure of the last word) > > > >I can only boot after unplugging the DVD drive. > > Upgrade /sys/dev/ata to the latest from -current and let me know how > that turns out please.. > > -Søren > > > _______________________________________________ > freebsd-current@freebsd.org mailing list > http://lists.freebsd.org/mailman/listinfo/freebsd-current > To unsubscribe, send any mail to "freebsd-current-unsubscribe@freebsd.org"
