In retrospect, please go ahead and commit the Gnats version.  The latest
Emacs snapshot I checked out, doesn't build correctly.  It's too risky
to update to today's source tree.

I'll update/resync again when I finish reading through the emacs-devel
list posts, and re-submit a PR.
