I appreciate that this is a sticky one to get mixed up in. The thing is that the libperl.a which is compiled as part of the mod_perl installation _is_ linked with -E. So I'm not sure what else to look at. I've submitted PR 14924 with the details and a precise How-To-Repeat, so if you have any further suggestions, your feedback copied to freebsd-gnats-submit would be greatly appreciated.
