This is counterargument for people who use sendmail from base because they do this many years before and have configs. And I not only don't use sendmail, I need disable it any time as install new instance of FreeBSD. And I am not alone in this. > Many things aren't used by "most users" - Most don't use bhyve, for > example, > and I bet a high proportion don't even use clang, or many of the other > installed utilities. > > As for dma, it's already installed by default - but as most people > don't > use it, by your logic, it shouldn't be! :-) > > cheers, > jamie There is no suitable bhyve(or clang) alternatives on FreeBSD, so we use better ones. 1. Sendmail not suitable for modern mail system and not actively developed anymore. 2. We have modern lightweight alternatives like dma or opensmtpd. 3. FreeBSD is OS for general use, not for mail server systems. If anyone need fully functional mail server he can install it from ports. P.S. Sendmail was removed from default install in almost all Linux distributions and from base system in DragonflyBSD, OpenBSD and NetBSD. Best regards.
