Should probably close this now. The issue is that mysql reads both the file=
 in
/usr/local/etc/mysql/my.cnf and the one set by rc.conf if it is in a differ=
ent
place. Hence it was reading in many defaults which made it very differently
configured from when it was only reading my own my.cnf file.

The slow replication was caused by sync_bimlg I believe, but thats kind of
irrelevant.

Would suggest making it clearer in the install that if yu don't move the co=
nfig
file to the new location then both files will be read.
