here's a work around if you can't get anything else to work. CTRL N to move down and CTRL P to move upwards in the menu's and you'll notice the menu item flash / flicker and the tab keys also work if you watch closely I've installed it many times like this and had success. ps: space bar select on checkboxes. It's not very usable on the graphics console unfortunately.
