I am in the process of chasing this down - printf city. The problem appears in the diskslice code. The booting kernel from the may01 sup will change root device, then make what appears to be three passes through the slices. Then it executes a swapon and things are happy. The non-booting kernel's since may02 will only make two passes through the slices and will hang before making a third pass. Today's sup hangs also (may11). I have a p90/bt946c/2gig seagate with the whole disk used by freebsd, and an p60/eisa2740/1gig hp with partition 1 nt and partition 2 freebsd. I will spend more time with this today and try to narrow things down a little more. I just wanted to put out the word since I've not seen anyone else say anything. Regards, Mark Hittinger bugs@win.net
