Your questions are relevant, but to answer them properly depends on user
load, version of FreeBSD, what services are running, and so on.  The old
rule of thumb of 2*RAM is just that, an old rule of thumb.  Is it accurate
in todays world?  That depends.  Given the current price of hard drives and
RAM I would give it a lot of both.
