This has been working for many years, 4.x through 8.0:
lp|HP ColorLaserJet 4550N:\
         :sh:\
         :sd=/var/spool/output/lpd:\
         :mx#0:\
         :lp=:rm=snowball:rp="auto":
...snowball is the printer's hostname.
